Bold claim: a near-perfect drama hailed as the best movie of 2025 is now ready to watch at home. Directed by Joachim Trier, who co-wrote the film with Eskil Vogt, Sentimental Value holds an impressive 97% on Rotten Tomatoes from 231 reviews. FilmWeek praised it as the best movie of the year when it released in November 2025.
The story follows sisters Nora (Renate Reinsve) and Agnes (Lilleaas) as they reconnect with their estranged father Gustav (Skarsgård), a once-celebrated director who plans a major comeback built around a script about his family.
Gustav offers Nora the lead role, but she declines. He then brings in a young Hollywood star (Elle Fanning) to star in the film, forcing the three of them to confront their complicated shared past.
