Polestar 4 Rear Windscreen Variant Confirmed for Australia (2026)

Polestar 4 Rear Windscreen Confirmed for Australia: A New Variant on the Horizon

Polestar Australia has confirmed that the mysterious "new variant" of the Polestar 4, teased last month, will be available in local showrooms either late this year or early in 2027. This exciting development was revealed during the Australian debut of the new Polestar 5 electric GT, where Polestar Australia's managing director, Scott Maynard, shared some intriguing details.

The new Polestar 4 variant promises to offer a unique blend of space, versatility, and dynamic performance. It will combine the spaciousness of an estate car with the practicality of an SUV, all while maintaining the brand's renowned performance. Maynard hinted at a potential launch before the end of Q4 2026 or Q1 2027, leaving enthusiasts eagerly awaiting its arrival.

This variant is expected to bridge the gap between station wagons and SUVs, featuring a conventional rear window instead of the existing windowless design. The teaser image provided a glimpse of this innovative approach, showcasing a more traditional rear window for improved rearward visibility. Michael Lohscheller, Polestar's global CEO, emphasized the brand's commitment to setting new standards with this model, drawing inspiration from Sweden's renowned estate cars and world-class SUVs.

The unveiling of the new Polestar 4 variant was accompanied by the next-generation Polestar 2 and the all-new Polestar 7 compact SUV, both scheduled for release within the next 18 months. These models, along with the Polestar 4, form a significant part of the brand's product expansion strategy.

Spy images shared on Chinese social media platform Weibo and Reddit have offered a closer look at the unnamed Polestar 4 variant. It features a more conventional SUV silhouette with a more upright rear and a rear window, closely resembling its coupe-style SUV sibling in terms of design elements such as the belt line and full-width rear light bar.

As the next addition to the Geely-owned Swedish brand's global product lineup, the Polestar 4 variant follows the all-new Polestar 5 flagship, which recently made its Australian debut. The Polestar 5 is set to commence deliveries in the second half of 2026. Polestar's local success in Australia is evident, with 2373 new vehicles registered last year, a 38.5% increase from 2024. However, the brand's volume is still significantly lower than Tesla's in the Australian market.

The Polestar 4 coupe SUV, known for its unique windowless design, led the brand's deliveries with 1295 units. The aging Polestar 2 mid-size liftback and the larger Polestar 3 SUV followed with 746 and 332 deliveries, respectively. Polestar's local boss anticipates modest but sustained growth, supported by the release of the Polestar 5 flagship GT and the introduction of three new models in 2027-2028.

This announcement marks a significant milestone for Polestar in Australia, as the brand continues to expand its product range and solidify its position in the competitive automotive market.
