New Mental Health & Eating Disorder Clinic in Peel: What You Need to Know (2026)

Joint Media Statement: New Mental Health and Eating Disorder Clinic in Peel Completed

The Peel Community Mental Health Service and Kara Maar Specialist Community Eating Disorder Service clinic in Greenfields, Mandurah, has now reached practical completion. This marks a significant milestone in expanding capacity and improving access to mental health and eating disorder support across the Mandurah and Peel region.

The Peel Community Mental Health Service will offer a comprehensive continuum of care, supporting individuals through assessment, acute intervention, ongoing clinical treatment, psychosocial support, and specialized rehabilitation to promote recovery, independence, and long-term well-being. Kara Maar's Specialist Community Eating Disorder Service will provide evidence-based assessment, treatment, and physical health monitoring for individuals aged 16 and over experiencing or showing signs of an eating disorder. The service will offer multidisciplinary outpatient care, nutritional and meal support, and collaborate with patients, families, and carers to support safe, sustained recovery.

Funded through the Commonwealth's Community Health and Hospitals Program, the new clinic will bring together clinicians and support teams in a contemporary, research-backed environment designed to support recovery. It will be operated by the State, ensuring a coordinated and evidence-based approach to care.

This project is part of the government's commitment to expanding healthcare services in the region. It includes the construction of a new hospital for the Mandurah and Peel regions at the current Peel Health Campus site, which will feature:

  • An expanded Emergency Department
  • A dedicated Mental Health Emergency Centre
  • A dedicated mental health inpatient unit
  • A dedicated palliative care unit
  • Additional inpatient beds, including a new High Dependency Unit
  • A new operating theatre complex
  • Expanded public outpatient services
  • New facilities for cancer treatment.

Quotes from Senator for Western Australia Ellie Whiteaker:

"For families in Mandurah and across the Peel region, this means earlier intervention and improved access to specialist support. No one should have to travel long distances or face extended waits to receive care for a serious mental health condition. Through targeted investment under the Community Health and Hospitals Program, the Albanese Labor Government is helping to deliver modern health infrastructure. Supporting local access to coordinated, evidence-based care in a purpose-built environment."

Quotes from WA Health Infrastructure Minister John Carey:

"Our government remains deeply committed to expanding the capacity of our health and mental services across Western Australia. This facility is another example of that. We want to ensure that people are able to get the help they need in a coordinated and supportive space, which this clinic will provide for people living in and around Mandurah and Peel. This project forms part of our government's broader commitment to delivering the health infrastructure our community needs – both now and into the future."

Quotes from WA Health and Mental Health Minister Meredith Hammat:

"This new clinic in Mandurah will make a real difference to so many Western Australians and their families who will be able to access care here, closer to home. The Peel Community Mental Health Service will provide wraparound support for people at every stage in their recovery journey, from initial assessment through to long-term rehabilitation and well-being. I'm particularly proud that Kara Maar's Specialist Eating Disorder Service will now be available to people aged 16 and over in this region. Eating disorders are serious, complex conditions, and having access to evidence-based, multidisciplinary care locally will make a real difference to individuals, their families, and carers. This clinic is part of a much larger picture for Mandurah and Peel. Combined with the new hospital being delivered at the Peel Health Campus, we are building a genuinely comprehensive health system for this community – one that addresses both physical and mental health needs."

Quotes from Mandurah MLA Rhys Williams:

"Establishing a specialist facility in Greenfields for the first time is a major milestone for our Mandurah. The strongest outcomes are achieved when acute hospital care is supported by well-resourced community services, and this project brings both together. This new clinic forms part of our broader plan to ensure Mandurah's health infrastructure keeps pace with growth and delivers the care our community deserves."

Quotes from Dawesville MLA Lisa Munday:

"As a paramedic and psychologist, I witnessed firsthand the profound effect mental health and eating disorders have on individuals and their families. Kara Maar's Specialist Eating Disorder Clinic and the Peel Mental Health Service Clinic are both very welcome additions to our community and much-needed resources for the Dawesville electorate. Specialist clinics like this provide early, evidence-based treatment, coordinate multidisciplinary care, and support both patients and families, improving recovery outcomes and helping prevent serious physical and psychological harm."
