Steinbach Business Opens Early for Team Canada's Gold Medal Game
After an exhilarating semi-final comeback, Canada's men's hockey team is on a path to the gold medal game, and one Steinbach business is gearing up for an early start. Smitty's, a local lounge, will be opening its doors at 6:30 a.m. on February 22, just in time for the 7 a.m. puck drop. This move is sure to create a buzz among fans eager to support their national team.
Kaely Dyck, co-owner of Smitty's, expressed her excitement, "We're thrilled! We've received approval from the LGCA (Liquor, Gaming, and Cannabis Authority of Manitoba) to open our lounge early on Sunday morning. It's a unique opportunity for our patrons to enjoy a Canadian classic Caesar or Bailey's and coffee or mimosa with breakfast while cheering on the Team Canada men's team together for the gold medal."
Dyck's enthusiasm is infectious, as she vividly recalls a similar event from 2014 when Canada competed for gold. "It's been 12 years, but I still remember the fun we had that morning in the lounge cheering for Team Canada. So many people from Steinbach came out, and it's amazing how that memory has stuck with people. We're thrilled to recreate that experience again."
The early opening has generated positive feedback from the community, with many locals eager to unite in their support. Dyck emphasized the feel-good aspect of the Olympics, especially seeing Canadian athletes represent their country. "The Olympics are a fantastic time, and it's wonderful to witness Canadian athletes reach this stage. It's a perfect opportunity for people to come together and enjoy the games."
As the excitement builds, Dyck encourages fans to join the celebration and even suggests making reservations in advance. "We'll be offering happy hour pricing on all our drinks, and it's all about the fun!"
